A Review of Dreamcatcher Tipis – Glamping in Style at Yellowstone

Located right outside of Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner, MT, the Dreamcatcher Tipi Hotel offers unique accommodations and a glamorous camping (or glamping) experience. We stayed for two nights in June and really enjoyed the tipi and the campground.

Want to know what it looks like inside, what to expect at the campground and where you find the bathroom? Read on for more about our “glamping” experience at Dreamcatcher Tipis.

First, is it Tipi, or Teepee?

I wasn’t used to seeing teepee spelled “tipi,” but apparently, both are correct! Tipi is actually a little bit more of a traditional spelling. According to the Teepee Joy blog, “The word tipi originates from the Lakota language and the word “thípi,” which is often translated to mean “they dwell.” Today, you may see it spelled as tipi, tepee, or teepee, but each is referring to the same type of structure.”

Our Luxurious Tipi Accommodations

These tipis are really nice inside! Our tipi had a comfy queen size bed, complimentary water bottles, two chairs, a daybed with a pullout bed under it and two space heaters to keep us toasty in the cold mornings. It got chilly at night, but the bed covers and blankets kept us warm enough not to need the heaters. We only used them during the chilly morning times.

There is a decent amount of space inside, and it just feel fun to hang out in a tipi rather than a hotel room. The only thing we could have used was more plugs. There was one small power strip, but we definitely could have used one more to charge our multitude of electronic devices.

The campground does have free wi-fi, and the reception was very good. I had no problems checking e-mails and using the Internet. But don’t expect that once you venture into Yellowstone Park! There were a lot of places in the park with zero service.

Besides that, the tipis have everything you need in them for a good night’s rest except one thing- a bathroom! As someone who normally gets up once, maybe even twice to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, this was my least favorite part. (can you tell I don’t camp a lot? And by that I mean, ever, lol) If we stay again, I would request a tipi closest to the bathrooms. It doesn’t seem far away until you’re scurrying to the bathroom in your jammies in the dark with a little lantern.

Dreamcatcher Campground Amenities

The good news is that once you make it to the bathrooms, they are really nice and there’s plenty of them. They also have showers, towels, toiletries and heated floors!

Breakfast is included in your stay, and includes a wide variety of options like oatmeal, yogurt, food bars, cereal, fruits, and more. There is also coffee, juice, milk and water. It’s served in a tented area next to the gift shop.

Each tipi has its own gas-powered fire pit, and each evening they light the big fire pit in the center of camp where everyone is welcome to visit for complimentary s’mores and drinks. There’s a really nice selection of beer and wine, plus juice for the kids. There’s also plenty of blankets to keep you warm while you chat with your new neighbors.

The campground is pet-friendly, and you might even run into a few visitors from neighboring houses. Oliver is a regular visitor who greeted us each morning looking for head scratches and leftover breakfast treats. My son totally fell in love with him and kept trying to sneak him cheese.

Overall, I totally recommend staying at Dreamcatcher Tipis if you are visiting Yellowstone. It’s super close to the park, has beautiful views, comfortable accommodations and the staff is friendly and helpful. An they have military discount! It’s definitely a unique experience, and something I’d want to do again.
