Which Restaurants Have Pup Cups and Free Treats for Dogs?

While going through the Chick-fil-A drive through with our dog in the car, we were offered a free Pup Cup treat, which made our pup very happy! That got me wondering- where else do they offer free dog treats and what are they?

I did a little research and compiled a list of free (or inexpensive) dog treats at national restaurants. Offering may vary according to the franchise, but here’s a look at some popular establishments and what they offer for your dog.

10 Places with Free Treats for Dogs

1. Chick-fil-A Pup Cup

Chick-fil-A is dog-friendly, and many locations offer free pup cups upon request. Their pup cup typically contains a small serving of plain vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, which is a fun occasional treat for your dog. It’s always best to double-check with your local Chick-fil-A, as offerings can vary by location.

2. Starbucks Puppuchino

The Starbucks Puppuccino is a famous freebie for dogs. This treat is a small cup filled with whipped cream, given to your pup while you enjoy your favorite coffee. While it’s generally safe as a treat, be mindful of how much a dog should eat and how much dairy your pup can handle.

3. Dairy Queen Pup Cup

Dairy Queen offers pup cups at many locations, consisting of a small cup of vanilla soft-serve ice cream. Some locations even add a dog biscuit on top. It’s a sweet way to include your pet in your outing.

4. Sonic Drive-In

Sonic Drive-In often gives free dog treats or pup cups, usually a small serving of whipped cream. Ask your carhop if they have a dog-friendly option when placing your order.

5. Culver’s Custard Cup

Many Culver’s locations offer free dog-friendly custard cups, usually a scoop of plain custard, sometimes topped with a biscuit. It’s a great way to treat your pup after a walk.

6. Shake Shack Pooch-ini

Shake Shack has a special dog menu that includes items like Pooch-ini, a combination of dog biscuits, peanut butter sauce, and vanilla custard (not free, but reasonably priced). They also offer plain dog biscuits for free upon request.

7. Andy’s Frozen Custard Pup Cup

Andy’s Frozen Custard locations often offer free pup cups made of their vanilla custard. Some locations even customize the treat with a biscuit.

8. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

Freddy’s offers free pup cups at many locations, typically made of their vanilla custard. These can be requested at the counter or drive-thru.

9. Tim Hortons Timbits

Tim Hortons in Canada and select U.S. locations provide Timbits for dogs. These are plain, unglazed doughnut holes, safe for occasional doggy treats.

10. Local Ice Cream Shops and Bakeries

Many independent ice cream parlors and dog-friendly bakeries offer free dog treats or pup cups. Some even have full dog menus with treats made from ingredients like peanut butter and yogurt.

Our local ice cream shop Whit’s has pup cups, but they aren’t free. It’s always worth asking for if you happen to have your dog with you and don’t see it on the menu!

Things to Keep in Mind

While these treats are often free and fun for your dog, keep the following in mind:

  • Portion Control: Many of these treats, such as whipped cream or ice cream, are high in fat and sugar. Offer them as an occasional indulgence.
  • Lactose Sensitivity: Some dogs are sensitive to dairy, so monitor for any digestive upset after these treats.
  • Ingredients: Always ask staff what’s in the treat if your dog has allergies or sensitivities.

So, next time you’re out and about, consider treating your pup to a free snack while supporting pet-friendly establishments! You can also check out this list of dog-friendly stores to see where you can take your pup for some shopping. You’ll have one happy dog afterwards.
