We’ve got a new Guest Geek post today with some great tips for squeezing in some self-care time for busy moms. You might recall I posted my own tip a while back, about turning your kids bath time into your own spa time! So here’s a few more ideas for finding more of that ever elusive “me time.”
5 Self-Care Hacks for Busy Moms
We all know that feeling when you’ve just sat down after the longest day of your life and you heave a sigh of relief and start pulling off your shoes, and suddenly you’re hit with that earth-shattering, “Mom!” Right? Right. As a parent, sometimes it’s hard to feel like we ever have a moment to ourselves, let alone the time for pampering. Luckily, taking care of your mind and body is not as complex and time-consuming as Instagram influencers might have you believe. Here are five quick and easy ways to sneak some self-care into your everyday routine.
Touches of Luxury
Sometimes you just have to sneak it in where your schedule won’t even notice. You were going to take a shower anyway, right? You might as well really enjoy it. Find yourself a shower or bath product, like a luxury body wash that smells like heaven and makes you feel fantastic. It’ll leave you feeling just a little more taken care of when you step out of that bathroom and into the big bad world.
Go-To Makeup Routine
Figuring out a very quick and very easy makeup routine that works for you, even when your kids are waiting in the car and yelling at you that they’re going to be late for school, is endlessly helpful for making you feel like you have your life together. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive or take any longer than 5 minutes, it just has to make you feel put together and ready for the day. You can check out this article for some ideas.
15 Minute Rituals
We all have little things in our lives that make us happy, bring us peace, and just get us into that zen mode. Whether that’s reading a book, enjoying a cup of tea, going for a quick walk to clear your head, or calling your mom to see how her day is going, a lot of times they can be condensed into 15-minute breaks. Most of us can find a brief 15 minutes in our day to do something kind to our minds and bodies, so find that 15 minutes and find a quick spark of joy.
Incorporate Mindfulness
You don’t necessarily need to embark on a journey to become a yoga instructor to get a little more in touch with your inner self. Taking a moment when you’re feeling frazzled and overwhelmed to calm your mind and really focus on how you feel will do wonders for your mindset and how you feel overall. If you have no idea what any of that even means, start here and you’ll get the picture.
Playdates
No, not for you silly. Sometimes the easiest way to schedule in some time for the real nitty-gritty self-care of taking yourself out for a pamper or spending a few hours on the couch watching Gilmore Girls with a face mask is to rid your house of the kids for a few hours. There’s no shame in that! The kids can spend some time with their friends and Mom can spend some time doing nothing. It’s truly a win-win. But since it is 2021, make sure your playdates are Covid-friendly.
