Cat Whispering at Pounce Cat Cafe in Savannah

I’ve always wanted to visit a cat cafe and recently got the chance at the Pounce Cat Cafe and Wine Bar in Savannah, GA. We got the “cat whisperer” package, which comes with treats for the kitties and a cat toy you can take home. And every visit to the cafe comes with a free non-alcoholic drink of your choice. Beer and wine can be purchased for $3.

What Do You Do at Pounce Cat Cafe?

We checked in at the front and picked out our drinks and a tasty pastry. You can take the food and drink in with you to the cat room, you just have to watch out! I had a cat steal my straw and run away with it. It’s actually in the video I’ll post at the end of the article.

There are tables to sit your food and drink on, and everything is impressively clean. There was surprisingly little hair on things, and it doesn’t even smell like cats. It smells clean.

Once you step inside you are free to wander and pet the cats. They are all pretty friendly! They do get pretty excited when you pull out the treats. At one point we were swarmed by excited cats.

There are cat toys you can use if you want to play with them, and brushes to brush them. Or you can just sit and let them walk by as you pet them.

Where Do the Cats Come From?

The cats come from local rescues and shelters, and all are adoptable! In Savannah, all of the cats come from The Humane Society for Greater Savannah. The cat cafe is a big foster home, where the cats get to live until they are adopted. You’ll see on some tags it will say, “I’m adopted.”

There are usually about 15 – 20 cats a time and they all live and sleep in the cafe. You get an hour to hang out with the cats for $17 per person and the minimum age is 12.

An hour sounded kind of short at first, but I’m not sure if we even stayed that long. You can only sit and pet cats for so long. They probably don’t have books because I would spend all day in a cat library.

Reservations aren’t required, but they can get booked up and can’t accommodate walk-ins if that happens. Since we were going on Memorial Day weekend, we made sure to RSVP through their website: pouncecatcafe.com.
