As an avid gardener, I’m always planting, weeding and transforming parts of my garden. It’s a never-ending task. Our Guest Geek post today has five good tips for keeping your garden in shape and changing things up a bit as well.
A garden can sometimes feel like a full-time job. If you let it get out of control, then not only will it take time and effort to pull back around but you may need a professional to come in and sort out all of your problems. Whether you are looking to minimize your workload by changing to turf flooring or you want to have a bountiful garden full of flowers, it can be difficult to know where to start. If you need a little bit of advice on what your next steps could be then here are just a few tips for you to think about.
Beating the slugs
These unwelcome guests can be a massive problem for any garden whether in the rain or the shine. If there was a popularity poll, then snails and slugs would definitely be at the bottom of the list. Using pesticides can help you keep them away, but the most effective tool is you and your family. If you head out at dusk with buckets and flashlights, you should be able to pick these pests out quite easily. It is a hassle but worth doing to save your plants.
Keeping your plants watered
If you live somewhere wet then you may think that you don’t need to worry about this, mother nature will do it for you. But even for places as wet and rainy as the UK, a well-running watering tool system for your plants will make sure that your garden stays looking healthy. You may want to consider sorting out an irrigation system that delivers the correct amount of water where it is needed in your garden, rather than running around with hoses and buckets when the garden looks dry.
Late-season flowers
Many people tend to only focus on their gardens during the summer. This means for most of the year, they have very drab gardens. However, this does not need to be the case. If you want to extend the flower life of your garden, then you should think about trying to introduce flowers that do well in the winter. Flowers like cornflowers and dahlias are great ones to add in for a little color in the winter.
Adding atmospheric light
A great way to extend your garden use throughout the year is to make sure that it can be seen. Lighting can make sure that all areas of your garden can be used even when the dark creeps in during the darker months. You can use lights to highlight your paths and avoid your plants being trodden on. If you want to add drama and atmosphere to your garden, then you can decorate a leafless tree with fairy lights. Not only will this add some extra light to your garden but look beautiful as well.
Revamping the garden
There are loads of ways to keep your garden looking good and beautiful. You just need to spend a little bit of time planning what you want to do and how you are going to go about it.
