Looking to be a little smoother this Christmas? I have been testing out the Ulike Air 3 at-home hair removal device and am sharing that experience here, along with a comparison to laser hair removal. Read on for details on what both procedures are like, how much they do or don’t hurt, how quickly you’ll see results.

Professional Laser vs At-Home IPL Hair Removal
Laser hair removal and at-home IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) devices are both popular methods for achieving long-term hair reduction. While they share some similarities, there are key differences between the two.
Professional laser hair removal typically uses diode or alexandrite lasers. These devices emit a concentrated beam of light that targets the melanin in hair follicles, damaging them and inhibiting future hair growth.
At-home IPL devices use a broad spectrum of light to target hair follicles. While the principle is similar to professional lasers, the technology is less intense.
Basically, the at-home devices emit a lower power over a broader range and the professional devices emit a higher power in a very concentrated spot.
What is Treatment Like?
Professional Laser Hair Removal
For the professional visit, you’ll put on glasses to block the light flash, then lie down while the technician does the zapping. It is pretty intense depending on the area and the power of the laser. It will take about eight sessions to complete your treatment, spread six weeks apart. You will notice reduced hair growth after the very first treatment.
I found it to be tolerable the first few times, but they crank the power up in later sessions because it is needed to get the last few hairs. About halfway through my treatments for bikini line and under arms I gave up and stopped going because it just got too painful. I nearly cried at one point it hurt so bad on the bikini line. And that was after I had applied a numbing cream!
After my first laser session, I was covered in dark purple circles. They went away after a few days, but obviously my skin reacted weirdly. After I let them know about that, they adjusted the laser, and I didn’t have any more issues besides it hurting.
At-Home IPL Hair Removal with the Ulike Air 3
For at-home IPL, you will also need to wear glasses for the intense light flash. Ulike provides you with a pair of dark glasses for this, and a razor to shave the area before treatment.
You hold the device yourself and move it slowly around the area you want to treat. I was surprised to find there was ZERO PAIN! Whenever you do start to feel it get really hot, (actually it feels so super cold that it feels hot) you just wait for the device to cool a bit before starting again.
The treatment is pretty fast, but you need to repeat it three times a week for the first four weeks, then you step down to every other week and once a month. The results are not as fast as with the professional treatment, so hair reduction will be visible after about four weeks.

Ulike Air 3 IPL Hair Removal Device Review
The Ulike Air 3 is made for home use, but it’s a pretty impressive little machine. At $250 (and even less with my code) it’s a fraction of the cost of professional treatments and can be used all over your body.
The package comes with everything you need: the Ulike Air 3 device, a razor for preparing the area, dark glasses to wear during treatment, and a lotion for after-care. It even comes in a festive holiday box for Christmas!

Using the Ulike Air 3
The Ulike Air 3 is very easy to use and has three levels of intensity. They recommend starting with the lower level, which I did, but quickly worked my way up to the highest level without any pain.
The device is made with Ulike’s patented IceTouch technology, rooted in clinical sapphire contact cooling. Not only does it increase your comfort and reduce side effects, but it also increases treatment efficiency.
Every time it pulses, it flashes VERY brightly so you really need to wear those dark glasses they give you. You can set up to pulse automatically for covering large areas or control it yourself with the press of a button.

I found it really easy to use and totally painless. It was also easy to fit into my schedule because the whole process is less than 10 minutes of my time, including set-up. You basically just plug it in and go!
I am still testing out the effectiveness because I’m only a couple weeks into the treatments, but I’ve already seen a reduction in the hair growing back. I will come back and update after four weeks. It has great reviews both on the website and Instagram, so I’m very optimistic about the results.
As someone who has tried both professional and at-home IPL hair removal, I am now more a fan of the easy at-home treatments! Fast, easy and pain-free is the way to go, and I can honestly recommend the Ulike Air 3 for your hair-removal needs.
