The 1986 epic fantasy film (and personal favorite of mine) Labyrinth returns to theaters March 6th and 10th, 2024 for a special showing from Fathom Events and The Jim Henson Company, in collaboration with Sony Pictures.
It’s part of Fathom’s Big Screen Classic series, which includes an “exclusive introduction by renowned film critic and historian Leonard Maltin, exploring the enduring appeal of Labyrinth, which has helped cement the film as a true cult classic.”

Enter the Fantasy World of Labyrinth
Two of the biggest fantasy films of the 80s, Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal, were released on digital February 6th, 2024. Both movies are available for purchase and/or rent across major digital entertainment platforms around the world, with new key art and trailers.
Produced by The Jim Henson Company and Lucasfilm Ltd. with creatures brought to life by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, Labyrinth was directed by Jim Henson, who worked closely with acclaimed artist and Conceptual Designer Brian Froud (Froud’s son is baby Toby!), and Executive Producer George Lucas to create a mesmerizing fantasy movie adventure.
Labyrinth, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, follows the epic fantasy adventure of Sarah Williams (Connelly) as she makes her way through the labyrinth of the Goblin King Jareth (Bowie) to save her little brother Toby after wishing the goblins would take him away.
The movie features spectacular visual effects and ground-breaking animatronics, and contains original songs written and recorded by Bowie especially for the film. It’s actually the main reason Bowie signed on to star in the film! He had full control of creating the songs and music.

A Fantasy Classic
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid! So much so, that I convinced my mom to let me cut all my hair off in an effort to get David Bowie’s haircut. While other little girls may have wanted Sarah’s princess dress, not me. I wanted to be the Goblin King! Unfortunately, the haircut was a disaster of a mullet that took a while to grow out.
But these days I don’t have to get a haircut, I just need a wig and some makeup to make my Goblin King dreams come true. Click here to see another pic and the wig on Amazon.

The outfit was put together with items from my closet. I 3D printed the necklace with a free file from Thingiverse. I noticed later that I actually put the necklace together upside down! I plan to do this cosplay again and fix the necklace.

I quote this movie almost daily. As iconic and memorable as it is, though, I often find the second half of the movie to be kind of a slog. But the first half hour is full of wonderful moments that have stuck with me forever.
I usually have it on while I’m doing other things, so I haven’t noticed the second half dragging lol
It’s a wonderful background movie. Lol
They should be careful bringing back movies like these. People might start wanting story and acting instead of special effects, LOL. 😉
Wouldn’t that be nice! lol
Great posts as always. I have heard great praise about this movie but never got around to watching it. I do love the fantasy genre so I will consider checking it out soon. “Labyrinth” reminds me a lot of the Harry Potter franchise that I adore. I grew up reading J.K. Rowling’s celebrated series of novels which made my dreams come true. I’ve also admired all the film adaptations. The first film “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” has always held a precious place in my heart.
