I Got a Felt Letter Board, Now What?

When I first saw bloggers posting about upping their Insta-game with a felt letter board, I didn’t really get it. And then when I saw it, I was like, well now I have to have it! It’s a framed felt board with little slots to stick in letters and numbers. The more I looked, the more I saw them being used and felt like I needed to give it a try.

I did some research and found a cute post on NestingWithGrace.com where they found a lot of good uses for their board (photo above) and another with good tips and tricks on keeping your letters straight and setting up your layout.

I got this 10×10 wooden framed letter board by Shiny Vita off Amazon and was ready to think of something brilliant to share with the world. (If you feel the burning need to get one too, go ahead and click my handy affiliate link there and use code “geekmamas” for 25% off.)

The board comes with little scissors and 680 letters, symbols and numbers attached to plastic grids. About half of them glow in the dark so you can marvel at your witty quotes even with the lights out. It also comes with a little bag to keep your letters in, however, I found the best way to organize everything is to get little plastic containers with dividers. I got a 3-pack of plastic containers which was enough to organize everything in its own individual space so it doesn’t take an hour to find the right letter or symbol.

But before I could get started, I had to get snipping. And snipping. And organizing…

After I finally snipped them all off (ok most of them) I was ready to put something on it! But what?? Stuff I made up? Quotes from other places? My super witty insights into #momlife? I stared at that board for a long time and only managed to come up with this:

So maybe I’m not ready to join the Instagram letter board brigade just yet…lol.

I have at least found some other creative uses besides quotes:

sagaform and tryazon party
Hashtags at sampling and promo parties
happy birthday nanny
Special message for Nanny on her birthday!

And next I’ll probably use it as a sign at my son’s birthday party. So it has come in handy, although I kind of find putting all those little pieces on the board extremely tedious and want to quit halfway through and find some better use of my time.

But then I think…how will my husband get through the night without gazing on my wisdom glowing in the darkness? And I just keep going…

Feel free to inspired me with your favorite felt letter board quotes and posts!

The Greatest Shower of All

bathroom selfie in a towelI showered today! And why is that a monumentous occasion? Because I wanted to take a shower and I did! I didn’t have to ask anyone to cover for me, or wait until 9PM! I even shaved! That’s a lot of exclamations! But you get the point, this is exciting stuff.

As a mom, you often feel like your basic human rights have been taken away. You no longer eat, sleep or shower on the your own schedule. So today, a tiny piece of freedom has been handed back to me. Something I used to take for granted. The option to shower when I please, as long as I can keep the kid entertained for at least 15 minutes. It was glorious.

It’s a big day we’ve slowly been working up to. Today was the first time I didn’t get out three times to check on him while dripping water all over the floor. Next time I’m going to get crazy and try to shave AND wash my hair! Whoah!

Things are looking up over here. It does get better. You do get your normal life back, piece by tiny piece. And I’ve never appreciated those tiny pieces so much!

P.S. – I contemplated titling this “the golden shower moment” but probably don’t need that kind of traffic 😂

Let them eat cake! Or potato chips… or cookies…

My days used to be spent lacing people up in corsets and helping them pick out fancy costumes. Now I feel like 95% of my day is spent trying to find something my toddler will agree to eat. It’s quite a lifestyle change and takes some adjusting.

Potato chips for dinner! #ParentingWin

Why do toddlers hate food? Or love something one day so you stock up on it and then they refuse to even touch it?
I clearly remember my great grandmother feeding me steak piece by piece while I pretended to be a little bird stealing it from her fork. It probably took 45 minutes for me to finish the entire thing but she kept up with it. I now totally understand why. Being a parent has given me insight into certain things from my childhood that I never really would’ve understood otherwise. I also remember her making me a pizza at 10 PM at night just because I said I was hungry. Parents (and grandparents) will do anything to get a kid to eat.

I can tell Keelan is going to be a skinny kid, just like me and his dad were. I hope he eventually embraces our love of good food and cooking. Right now I might as well make him a nice dinner and then dump it on the floor because that’s where it ends up. But I will keep trying! I really look forward to the day he is helping me make gourmet dinners the kitchen and picking out his own sushi at dinner. (Early 20s maybe? Lol)

Until then, I’ll just keep slicing up those hotdogs. Unless he hates them this week of course.

Diary of a SAHM – Day…I already lost count

If you are going to start the stay at home mom thing, I really recommend doing it around the holidays. There’s so much going on and family visiting, and visits to family, that you don’t even realize you’re deep in the SAHM trenches just yet. You have people around. I imagine weeks from now things will be different. Much different. Probably more like next week.

I have thrown myself into the “planning of things.” I joined a Facebook mom group that does lots of activities and a running club for military spouses called Stroller Warriors. And we already do My Gym every week. (it’s a kid’s gym thing)

In the middle of all this I’m still trying to close my website store. My last day open is Dec. 15th. And then I have to move out of my office and workshop and figure out how to work from home. Guess I really enjoy challenging myself!

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! I have a ton to be thankful for this year and should probably do a thoughtful post full of love and turkey but this is all I managed to fit in. Got to squeeze in renting X-Men Apocalypse tonight because I am horribly behind on all the new cool movies.

Diary of a SAHM – Day 3

I think my son is on a hunger strike. He doesn’t seem to like anything except grapes and oranges. Maybe he’s gone fruitarian? I tried to bribe him with cheese puffs just to get something else in him and he crushed them in his baby hands like a tiny Hulk and threw them at the dogs.

Other than that, our day went well. I’m supposed to be reviewing this magic Sleepy Baby lightbulb but can’t find a lamp to use for it so am failing miserably so far. It is supposed to help them go to sleep or go back to sleep if they wake up in the middle of the night. As with most  moms, I’m willing to try anything that encourages sleep.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving with the family. Doing something a little different this year and going to my mom’s for the first time since we’ve been married. A visit with mom is usually blog posting gold, lol. If I don’t post anything more between now and turkey day, hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

"Just a sec honey...Mommy has to cut this up into little pieces, so the vacuum can pick it up easier."
