When I first saw bloggers posting about upping their Insta-game with a felt letter board, I didn’t really get it. And then when I saw it, I was like, well now I have to have it! It’s a framed felt board with little slots to stick in letters and numbers. The more I looked, the more I saw them being used and felt like I needed to give it a try.
What Can You do with a Felt Letter Board?
You can use them to write fun or inspiring messages to post on Instagram or Facebook. They are a little more visually entertaining than just text on a solid color background. Usually letter boards are accompanied by a setting that compliments the message, or held by a person. They work great for fun short messages, inspiring quotes or little signs for things like birthdays and announcements. We used ours to send a special message to grandma on her birthday!
Which Board Should I Get?
When choosing your felt letter board, pick the one with a frame you like and a size big enough to fit your message. For example, if you know you want to use it for quotes or scripture, you need a larger size board. As far as quality goes, all the ones I’ve seen have been pretty much on the same level. There’s only so much you can do with a slotted felt board in a frame.
I ordered myself this 10×10 wooden framed letter board and was ready to think of something brilliant to share with the world. The 10×10 is a nice size, not too big, not too small. Not too much pressure to do a long quote.
What Comes with a Felt Letter Board Set?
Most boards comes with little scissors, around 680 letters, symbols and numbers attached to plastic grids, and a baggie for storage. The set I got also had glow-in-the-dark letters so you can marvel at your witty quotes even with the lights out, though I have yet to use that feature.
Once your board arrives, you get to snip Every Single One of those 600+ pieces off the grid. And yes, it does get a little annoying trying to snip them all just right so they don’t have little extra pieces stuck to them. The sets usually come with a storage bag, but if you want to save time trying to spell things in the future, I recommend getting little plastic storage containers that come with dividers. I got a 3-pack of plastic containers which was enough to organize everything in its own individual space so it doesn’t take an hour to find the right letter or symbol later.
But before I could get started, I had to get snipping. And snipping. And organizing…
My Big Message to the World
After I finally snipped them all off (OK most of them) I was ready to put something on it! But what?? Stuff I made up? Quotes from other places? My super witty insights into #momlife? A quick search on Pinterest pulled up lots and lots of funny things to put on the board, but I wanted to come up with something myself.
So I stared at that board for a long time and finally managed to come up with this:
So maybe I’m not ready to join the Instagram letter board brigade just yet…lol.
I have at least found some other creative uses besides quotes online- I used the board to display hashtags at a promo party and as a sign at my son’s birthday party. So it has come in handy, although I kind of find putting all those little pieces on the board a little tedious and want to quit halfway through and find some better use of my time.
But then I think…how will my husband get through the night without gazing on my wisdom glowing in the darkness? And I just keep going…
Feel free to inspired me with your favorite felt letter board quotes and posts!

LOL! I think a graphic template would be easier to be honest. Putting all this little letters on there is kind of annoying.

I need to get one of those. Just having the kids holding up a “Happy Birthday” sign for their grandparents would totally make it worthwhile!
