On My 21st Wedding Anniversary

Today I’ve been married for 21 years, and I realized yesterday I forgot to get any kind of card or present for my husband.

We do have dinner plans though, actually by ourselves which is rare, so I suppose maybe we are considering that a “couples gift.” I know we DO plan to get splurgy at a fancy sushi restaurant, and I was kind of focused on that.

Also, it’s the end of the school year, and I was at a big convention over the weekend that took a lot of planning. I feel like it just kind of snuck up on me.

But if I did get my husband a card, it would probably just say the same thing the other 20 cards said, lol. Did you know that when you are married this long, sometimes you accidentally get the same card you got a few years back? It’s happened more than once! Guess it’s good we still feel the same way after all these years.

Celebrating 21 Years of Marriage

It’s hard to believe more than two decades have passed since we said “I do.” Over the years, our marriage has become a collection of shared experiences—joyful celebrations, unexpected challenges, quiet everyday moments, and memories that have grown more meaningful with time.

Reaching 21 years together gives us a chance to look back at how far we have come since our wedding day. So much has changed over the years, and life looks very different from when we first began this journey. Through it all, each year has added another chapter to the story we have created together.

When I look back on the past 21 years, it is often the little moments that stand out the most. The adventures, laughter, celebrations, challenges, and ordinary days have all become part of our shared history. Every experience has contributed to the life we have built together.

Our 21st anniversary is more than a celebration of the day we were married. For me, it is a celebration of our journey, the memories we have made, the life we have created, and all the moments that are still ahead of us.

So happy anniversary, honey! I’m looking forward to sushi and sake tonight. It’s been a great adventure, and I look forward to many more adventures ahead.

Traditional and Modern 21st Anniversary Gifts

The 21st wedding anniversary is a little different from many of the better-known anniversary milestones. There is no universally recognized traditional gift associated with the 21st anniversary, giving couples more freedom to choose something personal and meaningful.

The modern gifts traditionally associated with the 21st wedding anniversary are brass and nickel. Both metals are strong and enduring, making them fitting symbols for a marriage that has grown and strengthened over more than two decades. Brass offers a beautiful warmth and timeless appearance, while nickel is known for its strength and durability.

There are many creative ways to incorporate these materials into an anniversary gift. Brass jewelry, engraved picture frames, candlesticks, decorative keepsakes, or special pieces for the home can make thoughtful choices. Nickel-inspired gifts might include jewelry, watches, personalized accessories, or meaningful keepsakes.

Ultimately, a 21st anniversary gift does not have to follow a specific tradition. A gift that reflects the couple’s shared memories, interests, or experiences can be just as meaningful. After 21 years together, the best gift may simply be one that celebrates the journey so far while looking forward to the years and adventures still to come.
