Our puppy Tigger is turning two, and he’s laying at my feet as I type this. He won’t know anything about this blog post, but he does know he has a nice cozy spot to rest under my desk anytime he wants. This dog came into our life like a hurricane, full of destruction and total chaos, and has eventually become a best buddy to us all and a big part of our family.
We got Tigger by chance, as we weren’t planning to get a dog that day. We had been looking, and open to the idea, so when a friend came across an Australian Shepherd puppy that needed to be rehomed, she texted me about him. I took one look at the sweet puppy face and a couple hours later he was ours.
That sweet little 11-week-old puppy then proceeded to shred everything in our house, including our arms and legs. We were all bitten and bloody from those needle-sharp puppy teeth. We couldn’t do anything without him barking, whining or biting. He had so much energy (and still does) that he had to be taken out for runs several times a day. There were many days when I wondered what the heck I’d gotten myself into.
After a lot of training and a lot of damage to our house, Tigger eventually somehow turned into an amazingly sweet and loving dog that only occasionally tries to eat the furniture. He is like a furry little brother to our son and his best friend. He sleeps in our bed and wakes us all up with snuggles and kisses. It’s the best way to wake up in the morning.
So for all the bite marks on every corner of the house, and the fading scars on my ankles, every bit was worth it to have a dog like this. Happy Birthday Tigger! We love you so much and are really happy you stopped trying to eat us and the house. Mostly. 🙂
