Six days after I posted this edible crystal candy review, Misaky Tokyo announced they were shutting down. They are currently having a closing sale, so if you wanted to try it, get it before it’s gone! I’ve included the farewell message from the founder at the end of the post.
Looking for a unique candy gift that looks as good as it tastes? Misaky Tokyo edible crystal candy is a handmade, vegan and gluten-free treat inspired by traditional Japanese Kohakutou candy.
With their sparkling, crystal-like appearance and satisfying, crunchy exterior paired with a soft jelly center, these colorful sweets are almost too pretty to eat.
Almost. In the name of research, I happily sampled every last one!

Edible Crystal Candy by Misaky Tokyo
The edible crystal candies arrived very quickly after my order was placed and came beautifully packaged in a ribbon-wrapped gift box with a magnetic closure, making them perfect for gifting right out of the box.
The compartmented packaging is also surprisingly reusable — ideal for storing jewelry, craft supplies, or other small treasures long after the candy is gone.

Each piece of edible crystal candy is individually wrapped to help maintain freshness and flavor. For the best experience, Misaky Tokyo recommends enjoying the candies before the “best-by” date printed on the back of the box.
Definitely don’t let these sit forgotten on a shelf for too long. My box arrived on May 5th with a best-by date of 6/15/2026, so these treats are clearly meant to be enjoyed while they’re fresh.
Each handmade crystal candy features its own unique shape, color, and flavor, making every piece feel a little special. The candies have a crisp, crunchy outer shell that gives way to a soft and chewy center for a fun texture combination.
What Is Misaky Crystal Candy Made With?
Each edible crystal candy has slightly different ingredients depending on the flavor, and the full ingredient list can be found on the back of the box.
The main ingredients used in these candies are water, candy sugar, and agar agar, which is a plant-based gelatin alternative made from seaweed. Agar agar is what gives crystal candy its signature jelly-like center while still allowing the outside to develop that delicate crunchy shell.
Additional flavor ingredients vary by variety and include things like strawberry powder, yuzu juice, matcha green tea, citric acid, and even cherry blossoms.
Some pieces also feature extra decorative touches, like the matcha-flavored Jade Crystal candy topped with edible gold for an especially elegant look.

Misaky artisans craft each crystal candy using premium seaweed sourced from Japan, Indonesia, and Chile. The process takes an entire week, giving each flavor time to fully develop while allowing every crystal candy to form its detailed, gem-like shape.
Made without chemical additives and with less sugar than many traditional candies, these treats offer a more refined take on sweet snacking.
They currently have a 3-piece and 5-piece box available, and free shipping for orders over $100. Supplies are limited, so get yours before they run out!

Misaky Tokyo Shutting Down
Things were quiet with Misaky Tokyo for a bit, and then they were back, and it seems like all was good in crystal candyland.
But unfortunately, they are now closing down for good this time.
This letter from the founder explains why:
I never thought I'd have to say goodbye to Misaky Tokyo.
But here I am — and I want you to hear it from me first.
When I started Misaky in 2020, I just wanted to create something beautiful. Something people could enjoy together. What happened next changed my life completely.
Because of you, we worked with people and places I used to only dream about. The Oscars. The Emmys. Neiman Marcus. Nobu. And every single moment felt unreal.
But over the last few years, life changed me.
A lot of you noticed we became quieter for a while. The truth is — I was diagnosed with cancer. Going through treatment shifted everything: my perspective, my purpose, and what I felt called to build.
My passion is no longer just about candy. It's about healing. Helping people feel better in their bodies. And I have to follow that — even when it means letting go of something I love deeply.
So today, I'm officially announcing that Misaky Tokyo is closing its candy chapter.
And as a thank you — for every order, every share, every moment of support — we're launching our farewell sale. Our full collection, one last time.
This isn't the end. It's a transformation. And I hope you'll be part of what comes next.
With so much love and gratitude,
Alissa
