I’ve been giving Tigger Shroomies daily as a treat. He doesn’t have any particular health problems that I was trying to address, so I can’t honestly say that they improved his joints, immune system, energy or anything else. What I can say is that he likes them, they are easy to give and he has had no adverse effects while eating them.

What Are Shroomies for Dogs?

FreshCap Shroomies are chicken-flavored soft chews made specifically for dogs. Despite the playful name, these are not psychedelic “magic mushrooms.” They are a canine wellness supplement containing extracts from seven functional mushrooms:

• Shiitake
• Turkey tail
• Lion’s mane
• Maitake
• Phellinus
• Cordyceps
• Reishi

The formula also includes organic kelp, turmeric root extract, L-theanine, fish-oil-derived EPA and DHA, and black pepper extract.

According to FreshCap, the chews are formulated to support immune health, healthy movement, relaxation and general wellness. Those are the manufacturer’s claims, however, and my experience should not be interpreted as proof that the treats will produce a particular result for every dog.

The Real Test: Would Tigger Eat Them?

For us, palatability was the biggest question. A supplement doesn’t accomplish much if your dog refuses to eat it, and Tigger has rejected plenty of perfectly good treats.

The Shroomies are small, brown, chewy bites. Tigger was interested as soon as I offered him one and ate it without hesitation. More importantly, he continued to accept them every day instead of losing interest after the first taste. I don’t have to crush them into his food, hide them inside something else or persuade him to eat them.

Based on Tigger’s reaction, the chicken flavor appears to do its job. Of course, every dog has different tastes, but getting the picky-Aussie seal of approval is a pretty good start.

Did I Notice Any Changes?

Honestly, no—and that isn’t necessarily a negative review.

Tigger is 5 years old and was already healthy, active and acting like his usual self before I started giving him Shroomies. I wasn’t trying to solve a specific problem, so there wasn’t an obvious before-and-after difference to measure. I didn’t notice a dramatic change in his energy, mobility, behavior or overall health.

I also didn’t notice any negative effects. He tolerated the chews well and continued to enjoy them. For me, they have simply become a daily treat with added wellness ingredients.

I would be cautious about any review claiming that a supplement cured or treated a dog’s medical condition. My experience is limited to one healthy dog, and it can’t predict how another dog will respond. Shroomies are a supplement, not a replacement for veterinary diagnosis or treatment.

How Many Shroomies Should a Dog Get?

The package bases the daily amount on the dog’s weight:

• Up to 25 pounds: 2 chews daily
• 26 to 75 pounds: 3 chews daily
• Over 75 pounds: 4 chews daily

Always check the directions on your own package in case the formula or serving guidance changes. Because supplements can interact with health conditions or medications, it is also smart to ask your veterinarian before adding one to your dog’s routine—especially if your dog is pregnant, preparing for surgery, taking an anticoagulant or managing an ongoing health problem.

Are Shroomies Worth Trying?

If your dog is picky and you have struggled to find a wellness chew they will actually eat, I think Shroomies are worth considering. I like that the ingredients and amounts are clearly listed on the package, the bites are convenient and Tigger treats them like an actual treat rather than something he is being forced to take.

Just keep your expectations realistic. I can’t promise a visible transformation, and I wouldn’t buy them expecting a supplement to fix a medical issue. My verdict is much simpler: Tigger likes them, they fit easily into our daily routine and they haven’t caused him any problems.

Sometimes a straightforward result is enough. For a very picky Australian Shepherd, a functional treat he willingly eats every day earns a place in the treat bag.
