Geek of the Week: Author and Cosplayer Danielle M. Orsino

This week’s featured geek is author and cosplayer Danielle M. Orsino, who took her love of comics and fantasy and created the Birth of Fae Series. She recently released the second book, titled Birth of the Fae: Thine Eyes of Mercy, available on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles and Bookshop.org.

1) Introduce yourself

My name is Danielle M. Orsino. I am the author of the Birth of the Fae fantasy series and dog mom to Carlos and Penelope, my little furry muses. Both of whom have starring roles in the series. Carlos has already become a fan favorite as “Los” the chameleon dragon and companion to King Jarvok, lead of the Dark Fae. Penelope my readers will be meeting later on in the series as Lady Penelope, leader of the Aubane faction and Daughter of Theadova, another fan favorite. My website is Birthofthefae.com, I am published by 4Horsemen Publications.

2) What do you geek out on?

I am a huge comic book geek! Wonder Woman is my hero, I have a wonder woman tattoo I got when I was twenty years old. Lynda Carter was everything to me growing up. I have an extensive WW collection, down to the Mego dolls from the live action show, the original underoos and yes I have seen Lynda perform in concert and I did fully dressed in wonder woman regalia. I was the only one. I have a huge comic book collection including the first appearance of Rogue- Avengers Annual #10.  I also cosplay and go to comic con cosplaying every year.

3) Marvel or DC? and Why?

Because of my hero worship DC comes first, but from a writer perspective I have always loved and admired Chris Claremont, The Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past to me are two of the best examples of modern day story telling.

4) Were you a geeky kid or did you come into it later in life?

Always a geeky kid. From the minute I saw Batgirl kick her way on to the TV screen I was hooked.

5) Tell us a bit about your new book:

Birth of the Fae: Thine Eyes of Mercy is the second installment in my series and this picks up just as the war between the Court of Light and Dark Fae is ending and the two sides are signing a treaty. From there the Fae must deal with the consequences their war has taken on their human worshippers and the neglect. Times have changed, Paganism is no longer the ultimate power. Christianity is gaining ground and both courts have to deal with this all while figuring out how to navigate this new “peaceful” stance between the Fae. The Court of Light goes back to advising the European monarchs but there have been changes there too.

The human world is progressing and leaving the old ways and Fae behind.  Until Queen Mary decides she wants to conceive a child then she calls upon the Court of Light and from there well…The door is wide open for chaos to ensue. You can purchase the traditional book, nook or kindle, on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles.com, Bookshop.org and we are finishing the audio book now.

6) Have you or anyone you know cosplayed as a character from your books?

I do all my interviews as characters from my books, Enchanting Earth Co made a real quartz Aurora crown based off Queen Aurora which people can buy- https://enchanting-earth.com. My dream is to see people at the cons cosplaying as my characters and one day to do a calendar of the cosplayers as characters from the Veil, as a way to say thank you. I am a cosplayer so I want to support the community.
