Candy and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week

I feel like I haven’t quite recovered from the last rough patch and here we are again. If you haven’t seen the movie (or read the book) Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, it’s a cute, funny family movie and there’s a scene I often think of when everything is going wrong. The main character’s dad is a total mess, but he smiles, holds up his arms and says, “At least I got me arms!” – It’s a lot funnier if you watch the movie, lol.

I’m just going to dump it here, all in a row and maybe that will help purge it from my system. Let’s start at the beginning, where things were going great. So great that I had time to finally focus on getting our generator fixed before hurricane season. The generator that runs the house when the power goes out wasn’t working, so it starts with a call to the electrician.

The electrician is on his way over, so my husband goes to starts the generator and nothing happens. The battery is dead. Cancel electrician.

Take battery to be charged. It’s dead so we buy a new one. Take it home and install it. Turn on generator.

BOOM! FIRE!

A power surge blows out all our AC units at once and a surge protector in my office catches fire and melts.

So we call the the AC people and they get our upstairs unit working, but the downstairs units will need new motherboards on all three mini splits. They have to order them.

That evening I’m flossing and a piece of my tooth goes flying out. This leads to needing a crown on my tooth and much dental anxiety.

The next day we hear a leak and the plumbers come out. The leak leads to needing all our old copper pipes replaced to the tune of about a million dollars and a week of no running water. (To clear up some confusion, it was not a million dollars but it felt like it. )

That afternoon our dog accidentally scratches our son on the leg as he is getting out of the pool, it’s pretty deep, and we head to the ER for stitches.

The AC guys comes back out, installs the new motherboards and all the fans blow out. They will have to order new fans.

We still have no water, no AC downstairs, the house is a complete construction zone wreck, but my husband sticks with his workout schedule and drops a weight on his face.

He comes walking into my office with blood pouring down his face and saying thinks he needs stitches. He does, and he now has five stitches in his forehead.

The next day we have our water back finally, but the kitchen sink is running slow. They say we need a new faucet and a new garbage disposal.

So while my husband is at Lowes getting those things, we have a big rain storm. I don’t even want to call to let him know about the water that is creeping in the corner of the house that we were pretty sure we had fixed for good finally.

I have a temporary crown, my husband and son are both stitched up, the house is leaking on the inside and outside, our AC’s are still all blown and the darn generator still isn’t working.

So whoever is poking that voodoo doll, please stop, I’ve had enough.

I usually like to ends things on a good note, so I’ve got this- the water is back on and I’ve never been so happy to be able to flush the toilet. I’m ready to just flush the whole darn first part of the year.

But hey, at least I got me arms!
