A Fresh Take on Disney’s Haunted Mansion
I had the unique experience of riding the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disney the day before seeing this movie! With that fresh in my mind, I couldn’t help but notice ALL the little things packed into this movie. They got it all in there, from the lady in the crystal ball (played by Jamie Lee Curtis!) to the paintings on the wall. This movie was made for people who know and love the Haunted Mansion.
At the start, I was skeptical. I wasn’t sure where they were going with it. Haunted Mansion tells the story of Gabbie (Rosario Dawson), a single mom, who discovers that the home she and her son are moving into is haunted by ghosts. She wants to get rid of them and recruits help in the form of an all-star cast that includes LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto.
The movie was funnier than I expected and has a totally different spin on the story than the first movie with Eddie Murphy. I thought they did a great job bringing the mansion to life, and including all the best bits you remember from the ride. Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination? Even my son was pointing out parts he remembered from the ride.
I think they did a good job with this remake. They made a totally new movie, with a new story and angle, but managed to make it more relevant to the ride it was based on. I recommend watching it if you are a Haunted Mansion fan.

Another great review. I’m not a huge fan of Disney’s children movies that are released today. I feel as though the quality of these movies has steadily declined over time. But this one does sound interesting to me. I love movies that are set in confined locations of mansions where a mysterious murder occurs. For instance, I adored the “Knives Out” franchise. The recent sequel “Glass Onion” brilliantly used the confined settings of the mansion to create tension. If “Haunted Mansion” is similar to that film series, I would probably enjoy it.

I enjoyed Glass Onion, but comparing it to the Haunted Mansion would be a stretch. I think they did a decent job re-doing this one and aimed it at Haunted Mansion fans who will get all the little easter eggs planted throughout the movie.
