Finding a TV show that is suitable for the entire family can sometimes feel like searching for the Holy Grail. There is inevitably some compromise involved, but when you discover something that everyone will enjoy, the sense of achievement and success can almost be better than the experience of watching itself.
Anecdotal evidence has shown that families will remain closer for longer if they take part in more communal activities. We take our hat off to you if that means biking, hiking, or anything physical. For many, just getting the family in the same room at the same time can be a chore, so discovering a TV show they can all watch and enjoy is an achievement.
Dramas and comedies are usually a good idea, but with the FIFA World Cup taking place this summer – in the US, Canada, and Mexico – we thought it might be a good idea to search out some family soccer shows to get everyone ready for the sport’s biggest event.
All the best Georgia betting apps will be doing a brisk business once the tournament comes around but. For now, here are some soccer streaming shows and movies to get you in the mood.
Air Bud: World Pup
This was actually the third in the series of movies about a sports-playing Golden Retriever (called Buddy), after earlier editions about basketball and football (American-style). But, as we are now officially in the World Cup year, it seemed right to kick off our article with a classic comedy for those of you with younger children.
In this family outing, the owner of the skillful hound falls in love with a girl on his soccer team, who also happens to have a dog. To be honest, there isn’t really much point in examining the plot in any great detail for a movie like this. But it will be enjoyable for you and the young ones. Be warned, though, there is a whole Air Bud universe to explore, so you could be in for a series of dog movies and shows if you watch this one!
Welcome to Wrexham
This is the one soccer streaming show you may well have heard of, even if you don’t know that much about the sport. Welcome to Wrexham has been a global sensation, with millions of fans all over the world taking Wrexham, a down-on-its-luck soccer team from a small town in Wales, to their hearts.
This docuseries follows movie star Ryan Reynolds and TV star Rob McElhenny as they purchase the club when it is languishing in the lower reaches of the English soccer pyramid. The soccer action is exciting, but it is the relationships the two celebrities make with the locals that really won audiences over. Your whole family might well be Wrexham fans after watching this.
Pelé
Soccer fans love nothing more than to talk about classic games and stars from the past. You could feel a little bit left out of the conversation if you don’t have a grounding in the sport. So a movie like this – about one of the greatest to ever play the game – is a perfect introduction to being a soccer fan.
Pelé was a Brazilian soccer player who enchanted crowds during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. At a time when live soccer was not everywhere like it is today, fans around the world were enchanted by Pelé’s skill and tricks, as well as his charming personality. This movie is about the three-time World Cup winner, but also about the situation in his homeland at the time. Pelé famously ended up playing in the US as well, so this movie seems like another perfect choice ahead of this summer’s tournament.
Ted Lasso
This is another TV show that has become a firm favorite of soccer fans and non-soccer viewers alike. The first season received 20 Emmy nominations, the most of any new comedy at the time. There are now three seasons to catch up on before a fourth that is slated to be coming out later this year.
The show follows the exploits of Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, as a college football coach who is hired to coach an English soccer team, despite having no experience or knowledge of the sport. He was secretly recruited to fail, but his charm and personality slowly begins to win over the owner, team, and fans.

All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur
There have been some excellent docuseries made following the day-to-day goings-on at US major league teams over the years. But you may not know that there has also been some about English soccer clubs. The All or Nothing franchise has actually covered the NFL, NCAA, NHL, and rugby union, but soccer is also part of this popular strand of streaming shows.
Newcomers might be drawn to the series about Manchester City as the team claims success in almost every competition it plays in, or the Arsenal season following the team taking a new coach’s tactics on board. But far more interesting is the series about Tottenham Hotspur. This is a club in trouble, dealing with a very strong-willed coach, that seems to lurch from crisis to crisis. Exceptional televisual fare, in other words.
Entertainment for the Whole Family
Finding family-friendly TV shows can be a challenging task, especially with diverse interests and age ranges. However, with options like “Air Bud: World Pup,” “Welcome to Wrexham,” “Pelé,” “Ted Lasso,” and “All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur,” there’s a wealth of content that not only entertains but also engages everyone in the family.
Whether you’re looking for wholesome comedies or insightful documentaries, these selections can spark conversations and create lasting memories while gearing everyone up for the excitement of the World Cup. Enjoy the journey of discovery together and celebrate the joy of soccer as a family!
