My Week in Review – Cosplay Mom Make-over, White Plates, Toddler Painting, Park Hops and Good Teeth

It’s good to be back home! We had a great vacation and then jumped right back into things with the GAAM event, I got some new plates to better display food pics, we got messy with some paint pods, spent the morning at the park with Jax Moms Blog and K had a great visit to the dentist.

Week in Review July 30 – August 5

The Mom Make-over – Originally we had been working on costume from Final Fantasy for the GAAM event. Then we ran into “mom time” issues and didn’t finish in time. I wasn’t going to let my friend Effie attend her first big cosplay event not dressed up, so we threw together an anime inspired look to fit the theme. Here’s our big Before & After looks:

Showing off the Food – All my plates are colorful and most of them are old with scratches and chips. They aren’t the best thing to display dinner creations for recipe posts. I noticed most people (and restaurants) are using white plates so the focus is on the food. I guess I have a hard time NOT choosing color because I picked these out with the light blue rim. I used them for the first time to show off a meal made with Prego Cooking Sauce with chicken and mushrooms, which is a BzzAgent.com campaign I’m currently working on. I got to try the Creamy Lemon Parmesan and it made a really delicious easy meal.

Let’s Get Messy – I invited Effie and her son Alex over for a messy afternoon of toddler painting. You can pretty much put “toddler” in front of anything and it becomes a messy activity. We were sent some fun games from Goliath Games and the kids had a great time with the unspillable paint pods in the Paint-Station. They went at it with paint brushes, fingers and later entire and dinosaurs. The paint washed off everything amazingly well!

The Last Park Hop – We made it to the last Jax Moms Blog Park Hop of the summer and got to practice putting, take pics with the Little Mermaid, build and shoot a rocket and just run around the park like crazy. They choose a different park for every event in the summer and bring in a lot of fun activities and vendors. I think there needs to be a fall session as well, hint hint….

Clean teeth – We also made it to the dentist this week. Little K was very brave and had a good cleaning. I was a little worried since I have the hardest time ever getting him to brush his teeth. The folks at Fishman Pediatric Dentistry did a great job making him feel comfortable and rewarded him with a big blow-up monkey and a new little car!

That’s it for this week! As this posts on Monday I’ll be on my way to my own dreaded dentist appointment. I’m just hoping I can be as brave as my son! Wish me luck. At least they prescribed me some Valium so maybe I can get through my appointment without tears too, lol.

My Week in Review – Local Beans, Free Bowling, Pavers and a Magic Wand

This week I stumbled across a local bean roaster right here in Jax Beach, set the first paver stone down in my new front patio, learned (sort of) how to use a curling wand and introduced my son to the wonders of the bowling alley.

My week in review 6/17 -6/23

First Crack Coffee CompanyPsst…you got the beans? My husband loves fancy coffee and grinds his own beans every morning, so I’m always looking for new or unique coffee for him. I ran across First Crack Coffee Co while booking our dinner reservations at Doro and loved the fact it was locally roasted beans, right here in Jacksonville Beach. I messaged about getting a couple bags, and then the next day we met up in a nearby parking lot to make the purchase. Have to say, that was a first, lol. But my husband said they were delicious, and on top of being local and great quality, they also cost less than Starbucks beans so  I may be making another parking lot appointment soon!

Beachy waves like magic – I tried a curling wand for the first time and loved it! The curl is closer to my natural waves than the traditional clamp style curling iron. The one I tried is the Nume 25mm Classic Wand with a tourmaline infused ceramic coated barrel that actually makes glossy curls. It also comes with a heat resistant glove, but unfortunately I didn’t discover that until after I had already done my whole head and nearly burned myself about 10 times!

I got to set the first paver stone down in our new patio/fire pit area. My husband and a neighbor are doing a total DIY project on a grand scale. When we moved in, the front yard center piece was a 6 ft. tall, five tier concrete fountain, with a pineapple on top, spray painted black and filled with fake flowers because it didn’t work. I was lucky enough to sell that monstrosity off on CraigsList.

We’ve totally been taking advantage of Kids Bowl Free this summer! Bowling alleys all across the US are giving kids two free games a day all summer! All you have to do is sign up at KidsBowlFree.com. You can even add two family members for around $20. There’s also an app you can download and then you don’t have to worry about printing out coupons.

That’s it for my week! How was your’s?

My Week in Review – Little Donuts, Blue Ice, Clams, 16 Years and a Pile of Dirt

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you had a good week. Since I didn’t want to stick to doing a weekly round-up on a specific day or a specific number, I just decided to keep doing what works best for me- a random mishmash posting when I feel like it! No rules! lol

My Week in Review 5/28 – 6/3

img_3574Rediscovering childhood favorites- We went to Art in Park this weekend, where unfortunately it was boiling hot with about 110% humidity (yay, Florida summer!) so it was a very sweaty event. Keelan spotted someone with a blue colored treat and immediately started asking for blue ice cream. I quickly figured out it was flavored ice and thought that sounded like an amazing idea.  I used to always go for the blue raspberry flavor when I was little and we’d hang out at the ball park. It was a total childhood flashback as soon as I got my first taste! I hadn’t gotten a flavored ice in over 20 years. I love the ways kids bring a little bit of your childhood back into your life.

National Donut Day was Friday, June 1st and it just happened to coincide with my first visit to The Mini Bar, a new local gourmet mini donut shop that also sells beer and wine! It also just happens to be in the same plaza as an indoor trampoline park so we had an impromptu wine and donut break before going back into the madness of the kid zone. I think we found a new tradition!

Clam shells were everywhere on the beach the past few days. Open and empty, just washing up with the tide, hundreds of them all along the shoreline. I scooped up a bunch for our shell collection. I tried researching to see if this was some kind of annual phenomenon or weird clam season but had no luck. All I managed to find out was the name of the shell is Dosinia.

It was our 16th wedding anniversary this week. Hard to believe it’s been that long! I couldn’t have picked a better partner to spend my life with. We’ve gone through a lot together and are lucky to have grown closer as we’ve changed, adapted and grown up a lot since our college days. I love our life together and all our adventures. Here’s to many more 😘

Our next big house project got underway when a big pile of dirt was delivered this week. Keelan was ecstatic about this development. I’m sure he’d rather we leave him the dirt pile, but when the pavers come in we will be turning this into a patio and fire pit.

That’s it for last week. This upcoming week is pretty open so who knows what adventure awaits! The only big thing on the calendar at the moment is next Saturday when I participate in Dream Day. I’ll be dressed as Antiope from the Wonder Woman movie. It’s a huge event for children with life-threatening medical conditions, put on with PRI Productions and the Make-a-Wish foundation. They transform their building into a fairytale wonderland for the day and I get to go help the fairytale come to life!
