I went into A Haunting in Venice without a clue as to what it was about. I hadn’t even watched the trailer, and I judged the movie on the title alone, so I was expecting some sort of Haunting in Connecticut type film, set in Venice.
I suspected I was wrong a few minutes into the movie when they introduced the quirky main character, Agatha Christie’s legendary Hercule Poirot.
Movie Review: A Haunting in Venice
Instead of a horror film, it seems I’d stumbled into a mystery whodunnit with a spooky angle. A Haunting in Venice is based on the 1969 Agatha Christie novel, Hallowe’en Party, and reunites many of the filmmakers behind 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express and 2022’s Death on the Nile.
It was produced and directed by Kenneth Branagh who reprises his role as the celebrated sleuth alongside an ensemble cast which includes Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio and Michelle Yeoh.
An Eerie Mystery
A Haunting in Venice is set in post-World War II Venice, where we find the Poirot retired and living in self-imposed exile. He is convinced to attend a séance at a supposedly haunted palazzo, to see if he can prove the medium is a fake.
When an attempt is made on Poirot’s life and a guest is murdered, he is pulled into a world of secrets and the possibility that there is something after death after all. Can he solve one more murder and expose the truth behind the ghost children with a vendetta for doctors and nurses? Watch to find out: A Haunting in Venice

Great review. I really loved this movie as well. I can understand why you were misled by the title of the movie. It makes it come across as yet another formulaic horror film, but nothing could be further from the truth. It’s hauntingly effective adaptation of Agatha Christie’s beloved book for the modern generation. A mesmerizing murder mystery of an old-fashioned era.
It was definitely a different kind of movie! I have not read or watched much Agatha Christie, but I did enjoy it.
I Think Emma Laird would be great choice as Jean Grey In In MCU
