There are a number of ways you can create faux freckles with makeup, from splattering to hand dotting. The method I usually use involves a hair pin and cream make-up. You can use eye shadow as well, but the freckles will be much lighter than a full coverage cream or oil face/body makeup.
Watch the makeup tutorial below to see how I do my freckles for this Christmas Fairy cosplay look and scroll to the bottom to shop the whole fairy look.

Let’s Make Freckles!
You can do freckles of any color, but I was doing a Christmas fairy look, so my freckles are white on red cheeks. You don’t need a bright base, but it does make for a neat contrast with the freckles.
The two main things you need:
- Freckle colored makeup
- A bobby pin

I prefer to use the u-shaped hair pins like shown above, but you can also use a regular bobby pin. The UCANDBE Face and Body Painting Palette is only $9 (click here to see it on Amazon) and works great for face painting and freckles. I have the one above called Macaron, but if you want brown freckles, they have good colors for that in their classic palette, also on the same link.
The Freckle Technique
Make sure your face makeup is done and your layer of blush or whatever color you want under the freckles is prepped. Then, using a light touch, dip your pin into the makeup and dot in on your face. Keep going until you have all the freckles you want. It’s that easy!
Follow with a setting powder to lighten freckles, or a setting spray to keep them bright.

Shop the Christmas Fairy Look:
Click Here to shop the look! I layered and cut things up a bit, starting with the dark red dress by Leg Avenue. I’ve had this for years and it comes in handy so often. It’s incredibly versatile. I was shocked it was still available, so I recommend getting one of these before they are discontinued!
The dress is layered over a green tulle layered skirt, and cinched in with a gold belt that ties around the waist. I customized the fit of the dress using Tailor Rings.
The green mushroom shrug was a bit small on me, so I cut out a lot of the top to make it fit and not cover up so much of the dress.
The half green and half red wig is surprisingly nice quality for $22. Nice and thick and silky with pretty waves. You can part it to feature the red or green side.
The fairy wings are on the small side, but that makes them easier to move around in at least. They have elastic shoulder straps, but those are hidden under the shrug.

Detailed tutorial on creating false freckles using makeup, Candy. I will try this with my niece, it’s a neat trick.
Thanks! BTW, I tried to comment on your blog and it keeps telling me some kind of verification failed! weird.
Oh, sorry about that Candy. Will look into it. Thanks for the heads up.
