The day after explant surgery was not as bad as I was expecting! I think that nerve block must be pretty effective. They said it would last about 3 days and slowly wear off.
I woke up from surgery and immediately started crying because it felt like my chest was on fire. The nurses quickly shot something into my IV and I felt better. They said the burning feeling was pain from the incisions.
I’m currently all bandaged up and have not had the courage to unbandage and take a look. I remember looking for the first time after I got implants, and they looked like shiny torpedoes, lol. I’m afraid this time it will be more like Bride of Frankenstein.

I’m afraid it will hurt more if I see how scary it is. Right now, it just hurts a little, but it’s tolerable. I don’t have drains, but my sports bra is packed with foam which puts pressure on the skin so it can reattach itself or something like that. The doctor explained it to me, and I recall something about space being left when they remove the implant, so the skin needs to reattach and close up the gap.
I did lift my shirt up to take a peek at the bra and stuffing, and I have some ugly deep purple bruising on one side that extends down from the bra. So, I’m just going to wear this thing for another day before I look. I haven’t bothered with showering because it’s not like I’m doing anything to get sweaty or dirty.
Best Thing So Far
In one of my previous posts, I listed all the things I’ve bought to make explant surgery recovery go smoothly, and my favorite thing by far is the reading pillow! I’m using it in bed, and it does a great job of propping me up. It’s also soft and snuggly. I’ll be using this long after I’ve recovered. Click here to find it on Amazon.
My other favorite thing from the list is the pajamas I got and the front button shirt. So comfy! Click here to see my Explant Surgery Shopping List.
Two Days After Explant Surgery
I didn’t finish this blog post so now I’m at two days after explant surgery and I still haven’t removed the bandages. I feel like I have Schrodinger’s boobs. Like they’re great, and as long as I don’t look, I don’t know any different.
I’m working up the courage to take off the bra and shower today. I’m a lot more mobile than I expected to be. I can also move my arms more than I thought. This is great, but also tough because I don’t feel like resting.
The pain has been manageable with Tylenol, Ibuprofen and a muscle relaxer. Oddly enough, my back has been hurting more than my chest! I don’t think sleeping on my back works very well for me.
That’s all I’ve got for now. Time to go back to “resting.”
