Looking for a good excuse to take a vacation with your friends? Here’s 5 reasons why you need to take a girls’ trip (or at least start planning one) NOW.
Life can often feel like an endless to-do list, with work deadlines, family obligations, and daily routines leaving little room for personal rejuvenation. This is why a girls’ trip is not just a luxury—it’s a necessity.
Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a full-blown vacation, time spent with your closest friends can offer profound benefits for your mental and emotional well-being.
How You Can Benefit from a Girls’ Trip
Just in case you need to convince a significant other that you NEED to do this, keep this list handy for good examples of why taking a trip will improve your general mood and make you a happier healthier person in the long run.
1) Strengthening Friendships
Modern life often scatters us across cities or even continents, making it difficult to maintain deep, meaningful friendships. Busy family lives make it difficult to make plans to get together as often as we’d like.
It feels like it gets harder to make real friends the older we get. A girls’ trip provides a perfect opportunity to connect or reconnect and nurture those bonds. Sharing laughs, stories, and experiences creates lasting memories that strengthen relationships.
2) A Break from Responsibilities
From juggling work to family life, the responsibilities can be overwhelming. A girls’ trip allows you to step back from the pressures of daily life. Just know, if you have friends with toddlers, they definitely need a break!
Taking a vacation with friends (and not your little ones) gives you a chance to focus on yourself and enjoy guilt-free downtime, where you’re not on anyone’s schedule but your own.
3) Mental Health Recharge
Spending time with friends has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and improve mental health. Laughter, good conversation, and the support of your inner circle create a sense of belonging that helps combat feelings of isolation or burnout.
I know I returned from our girls’ weekend in Savannah with a renewed sense of purpose, and ready to jump into some projects I had been putting off.
4) New Adventures and Perspectives
Traveling with friends opens the door to new experiences and shared adventures. Whether it’s hiking a scenic trail, indulging in spa treatments, or exploring a vibrant city, these moments can inspire and energize you. Seeing the world through your friends’ eyes often gives you fresh perspectives on your own life.
One thing we’ve started doing is have one of us pick the place and make the plans. Everyone gets a turn to be the travel agent. Your friend may pick something you wouldn’t, so it’s fun to see what they have planned for your adventures.
The key to a successful girls’ trip is being flexible and open-minded. Be willing to try things and go places. You may end up at the worst drag show you’ve ever seen at 1AM, but at least you can laugh about that story together. (Yes, that really happened)
5) Celebrating Your Individuality
A girls’ trip is about embracing who you are outside the roles you play in everyday life. It’s a reminder that you’re not just a parent, partner, or professional—you’re also an individual who deserves joy, adventure, and relaxation.
So, remember to bring some fun outfits and plan at least one dress-up night on your vacation. Especially if that’s something you don’t get to do often in your every-day life.
And while I’m not exactly “dressed up” in the photo below, we did take a spur of the moment ghost tour in a hearse that turned out to be a highlight of the trip.

Planning Your Next Girls’ Trip
Whether you choose a tropical escape or a cozy cabin retreat, the key to a successful girls’ trip is tailoring it to your group’s interests. The experience doesn’t have to break the bank; what matters most is the quality time spent together.
We did a weekend road trip for our Savannah vacation and had such a great time that we decided to make time for these girls’ trips more often. I returned feeling like I reconnected with myself again and wanted to make that a regular thing.
Tomorrow, we fly to New Orleans for five days of exploring, sight-seeing and of course, ghost tours! I always like to do a ghost tour in every city I visit. I use both Groupon and Viator to book the excursions. Be sure to read the reviews before booking. Just because it’s on there, doesn’t mean it’s going to be good.
I’m sure I’ll have plenty of new blog material upon our return. Looking forward to writing all about it.
