Ever since seeing Hocus Pocus back in the day, witchy sister Sarah Sanderson has been on my costume to-do list. With the release of Hocus Pocus 2 streaming on Disney+ this Friday, September 30, I was ready to finally check this one off the list.
Luckily, Spirit Halloween made it pretty easy for me with a surprisingly decent licensed Hocus Pocus costume! I usually don’t go for ones right out of the bag, but I kept seeing this one and finally went for it. Get Ready to Run Amuck! Amuck! Amuck!
I used to insist on making everything, but these days if there’s something ready-to-wear, I’ll go for it and adjust as needed. This Sarah Sanderson costume looks pretty right out of the package. There are several different versions available, but the Spirit Halloween deluxe costume looks the most realistic.
The skirt is made with gauzy fabric with a bit of weight to it and is several layers plus a short liner. The top feels a little on the cheaper side, but still looks pretty good. I still need to do some adjustments to it, because I’m long in the torso and the top keeps wanting to creep up to my chin. I got a large size, and could possibly have gotten away with a medium, but it’s always easier to make things smaller so I went with large.
Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney+
I plan on wearing this costume for Halloween night! But tomorrow night I will be comfortably dressed and relaxing on the couch watching Hocus Pocus 2 with my son. We watched the first Hocus Pocus a couple years ago, and I forgot about the whole movie focusing around a virgin lighting a candle, and me not being quite ready to dive into the explanation of what a virgin is with the kiddo. I didn’t remember that being such a prominent part! lol
Thankfully the new movie looks like it’s glossing over that part and the witches are resurrected by a group of occult-curious teen girls. It also involves a little backstory about the sisters as girls, and features the original cast members, thank goodness! It just wouldn’t be the same without Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters.
