Looking for cooking classes in Jacksonville, Florida? Jax Cooking Studio provides classes for adults and kids, and we gave them a try with a family-friendly cooking class. Read on for our experience making Ariel’s Underwater Feast and a Jax Cooking Studio review.
They do classes for both kids and adults, and family classes so there’s something for everyone. I went with my son for a Little Mermaid themed class. They have a lot of fun class themes!
Taking a Cooking Class at Jax Cooking Studio
This was our first time at the studio, but definitely not our last! We are both looking forward to going again. The space itself is nice and well set-up where everyone has their own cooking area, and a table to sit down and enjoy your meal.
They have a drink cart where you can get water, juice for kids and wine for the adults! Can I mention how excited I was to see there was wine involved?
I indulged in a couple glasses while trying to wrangle my son into paying attention to the instructions. They made the Ocean Water Punch drinks for the kids extra fun by adding little gummy fish to the rim.

On the Menu:
Mermaid Cupcakes – Vanilla cupcakes piped with aqua blue swirled frosting and topped with sprinkles and chef-made edible mermaid tails.
Sea Salt Caramel Fudge Cookies – Rich caramel fudge cookies filled with caramel and sprinkled with sea salt for a perfect balance of salty and sweet.
Fish Tacos with Mango Salsa and Lime Crema
Seashell Pasta Salad – Seashell-shaped pasta tossed with diced vegetables, shredded cheese, and Italian dressing.
Ocean Water Punch
Each cooking session starts with a demonstration, then you go back to your cooking station to cook. The ingredients are already measured and set out, so you just mix and cook as needed.
They also have the instructions printed out at each station. This makes everything very easy to follow, even when cooking with a small child.

Starting with Dessert
We got started with dessert first, which was both cupcakes and cookies! We made the cupcakes from scratch, and the edible mermaid tails and frosting were pre-prepared.
My son actually did a good job following the instructions when he wasn’t trying to climb me or steal chocolate chips.

Next Up: Pasta and Tacos
Next, we made a pasta salad and cod fish tacos. Both were really delicious! My son actually liked the fish, which was a surprise.
We still had tons of food leftover and left with three to-go containers packed with tacos, pasta, cupcakes and cookies. I used the pasta salad for dinner that night and ate the leftover tacos for lunch the next day.
We are still eating the cupcakes and cookies. It was quite a feast!
Jax Cooing Studio Experience
Overall, we had a great experience at Jax Cooking Studio. It was a little different than some of the classes I have taken, where they walk you through each thing step by step. When they did the demonstration, I was worried I wouldn’t remember how to do everything.
But they have good instructions, and people walking around that are available to help you when needed. So, no need to be nervous about cooking on your own.
I liked how everyone had their own cooking station. I’ve taken classes at some places where there are only a few stations, and people take turns. But here, you get your own spot, and you are the one that cooks it all.
The menu was creative, and the food was delicious. We will definitely be going back!
