Mom Life

I Had the Best Mother’s Day Ever

This year, due to COVID-19 quarantine, we made no big plans for Mother’s Day. We didn’t go anywhere for brunch, I didn’t get all dressed up for a fancy dinner, I pretty much didn’t even need to get out of my pajamas and I LOVED IT.

Let the Mother’s Day Festivities Begin!

First I got to sleep in a bit, which is always a lovely gift. Then I went downstairs to find two vases of flowers (which I prefer to roses), a nice card, two new pairs of flip flops and the mixings for pear mimosas. My husband couldn’t decide on which pair of flops to get me, so he got both. We go through them pretty fast here at the beach, and I had just about worn out my current pair, so it was just what I wanted.

Next up was my favorite breakfast: pancakes with strawberries and bacon on the side.

And then the best Mother’s Day gift of all: Me Time

My husband poured me a mimosa, took our son, and left for a bike ride. I had the house all to myself, so I sat and drank my mimosa while playing Legend of Zelda BoTW. I found four new shrines, stocked up on arrows, upgraded my armor and did it all without anyone bugging me. I even had time to pour another round and contemplate whether I should play more, or actually get something done. I went with playing just a bit more.

By the time they returned, I was just getting hungry so my husband made up a plate of prosciutto skewers and even drizzled it with balsamic vinegar glaze. I had seen them on a Mother’s Day menu and really wanted to try them, so he looked up how to make them. They were delicious!

Food and Drink, then More Food and Drink

After we polished off the skewers and champagne, I was ready for a nap before we started the next round of eating and drinking. My son stopped napping by the time he was two, so I consider naps quite a luxury. I got in a good 45 minute snooze and woke up refreshed.

I had a nice quiet afternoon, which rolled into an amazing Mother’s Day feast prepared by Hawker’s in Neptune Beach. There was so much food that we ate it for three days! So I didn’t have to worry about what we were having for lunch or dinner for days afterward. For dinner we went with siu yoke, sichuan green beans and basil fried rice.

We wrapped up Mother’s Day with an evening walk on the beach and were treated to a beautiful rainbow over the ocean. It was a day long treat of food and drinks and plenty of quiet time. And while my husband kept apologizing for not being able to bring me anywhere, I didn’t feel I missed out on anything. In fact, I thought it was a pretty perfect day, and I think I may ask for the same thing next year!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day, however you chose to spend it. I truly enjoyed not making a big deal of going out and celebrating. I have everything I need right here at home. 🙂

  1. That sounds awesome!! Glad you had a great day! Mine was pretty great too!! Just relaxing with kids at home and kids stopping by to drop off flowers and treats! We did order delivery for dinner but honestly, since we’ve been cooking yummy stuff at home, it wasn’t even that great lol.

    • Sounds like a great day as well 🙂 Totally get that about ordering. We ordered dinner last night and definitely could have done better cooking ourselves, lol.
