I always read about people having trouble pressing publish when they write their first blog post. They stress about putting that first post out into the world for everyone to read. I always advise people to just start writing and don’t worry about it. Because honestly? Unless you are really pushing that post and sharing it on social media, only a handful of people are going to see it anyway.

Just Press Publish
So don’t worry about it too much, just publish it! You need content to see how things display on the screen and work out your categories. It helps to have something to work with when setting up your site. Check out my amazing thought-provoking very first blog post: Mama, Mama Mama…
Feel better about your first post now? lol
That was before I bothered adding photos every time and a Pinnable image was not even a thought. I didn’t have any backlinks to add. I didn’t even think about adding links at all! I just had something to say and I said it. I talked about a Facebook group that doesn’t exist anymore and how everyone was too busy to help. I had started this blog hoping to involve lots of moms until I realized everyone is too darn busy to help and I needed to get it done on my own if it was ever going to happen.
So I did, and here we are.
Getting Started Blogging
I started with a free WordPress account and wrote what I wanted, and as I wrote I learned more about blogging, SEO and social media. As my blog knowledge grew, so did my blog. I wrote sporadically for a year before I ever saw more than 200 views in an entire month! It wasn’t until I started posting regularly and had a decent archive of older posts that I started getting good traffic.
Once I started getting good traffic, I upgraded to a paid account because I wanted to remove those ugly ads and have more options to add plug-ins and widgets. I started paying attention to SEO and making better, more search engine-friendly titles. With the new influx of traffic came offers for free things to review and then later sponsored posts where I actually made money blogging for the first time.
It All Starts with the First Blog Post
So if you are thinking of blogging, and don’t know where to start, it’s time to just sit down and write that first blog post. Then start your journey for real by pressing publish. And if you’re wondering what NOT to do, check out my post ranting about why I just can’t read some of the blogs out there.
Good luck! And feel free to post blog questions if you have them 🙂

I would like to know what SEO is. And how to make search engine friendly titles.
I would love for you to look over my blog/site and give some constructive criticism.
I didn’t realize pinterest was a part of blogging, I haven’t visited pinterest in a while. Thanks.

This was a much needed boost right now. After years off of blogging I decided to dip my toes back into the water recently. Starting over from scratch…is so hard. Thanks for the reminder to just take it one day at a time.

I bet it’s hard to start again! Hopefully by taking a break and coming back, you have regained the inspiration that made you start in the first place 😁

I just started my blog a few days ago and like you said, I was a bit scared to click the publish button. I’m glad I did though 😀 Thank you for sharing this!
