One of the best things I’ve done since becoming a stay at home mom is join a gym with child care. I’ve never had quite such great incentive to go work out. No time for yourself? Kid driving you crazy and you need to recharge? Maybe all you really want is a hot shower? Go to the gym for aΒ stress-relievingΒ hour and a half break!
I’ve never really been a gym person. I prefer to workout at home, in private. But now that privacy is a something I’ve given up in favor of motherhood, I have to go out and seek ways to find me-time. Some days that “me-time” comes in the form of slowly peddling a recumbent bike while checking my e-mail.
And while I may often take advantage of the child care just to get a much needed break, just being at the gym so much has inspired me to start working out for real. Some days I surprise myself and actually get sweaty. Within my first few months of going I lost a stubborn 7 lbs. of baby weight that I’d been fighting with for a while and now I’m working on the last five.Β I think some parts of me are permanently changed in shape just due to housing a child for ten months in there, but I’m excited to now be fitting back into some of my favorite clothes.
And now that it has become a habit and a welcome break, I actually miss it when I don’t go. I even went on a Sunday last week! Normally I don’t even hit my FitBit step goal on a Sunday so this is quite a change for me. I even signed up for some fitness challenge apps, but am saving that for a future blog after I get some results!
Discovering the gym was a real sanity-saver. And the big bonus is I look better, feel better and am happier for the little break every time I go. I highly recommend giving it a try even if you aren’t into working out. You may surprise yourself. I know I did!

I love the idea of mommy’s working out and babies in the child care. Far from you to give you a break and not far away either hehehhe. Gymmimg helps our moods a lot, it must really be making you feel fresh and look after your baby with an energy filled mood! Even the baby must be amazed at your boost in energy haha. It tells me i should do the same after i deliver! ππ thanks β€β€

I do actually have more energy for the rest of the day to keep up with him when I start with the gym!

If you’re at point that you look forward going to the gym, you’re on the right path π

It does make me feel better! But honestly sometimes “looking forward to the gym” really means “looking forward to checking my e-mail” lol

Christine and I regularly hit the gym together…that way the kids can play together, and we can walk at a leisurely pace and gossip. Someday we’re gonna sneak margaritas in our water bottles and call it Happy Hour.
Or you know. Lose the baby weight. Someday.

I feel the same way! I’m not going to the gym right now because of flu season and newborn baby… Don’t want him getting germs in the childcare. But I wholeheartedly love my gym time! And not just because I’m building muscles. πͺππ€£

The flu this season is scary! I’d be keeping the newborn home as well. Probably in a bubble, lol

Thank you! I put on almost 60lbs and it did not magically go away after he was born like I hoped lol. Hard work works though! Almost back to my starting point π

I wish I had thought of that! Being a Stay-at-Home-Mom is hard. Sometimes you just need that space and time to do something for yourself. Great Tip!

He was 2 before I found out about the gym thing. Wish I had found out sooner! I’ve never been a gym person so I didn’t even think about them having childcare until I saw a postcard at a kid play place we frequent. It was literally life changing π

Y’know, I’m not great at keeping with a workout schedule, but someone watching my children for a bit is motivating enough to go!!

It so is! Plus if you figure in what babysitters charge, after a few gym visits, it’s like going for free π

I love the gym!!! Not limited like you are at home (if you don’t have an At-Home Gym). The daycare is the icing on the cake!!! I’m sure by the time you are finished, your LO has exhausted themselves and end up falling asleep in the car. Priceless!
Also….You look great!!! Keep it up!!!
